Dark Funeral – The Secrets of the Black Arts (1996)

Hello, everyone. As usual in this category, we’ll talk about another awesome album. This time it’s Dark Funeral’s “The Secrets of the Black Arts”, released in 1996.

Artist: Dark Funeral
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Sweden
Label: No Fashion Records
Type: Full-length
Format: CD, Digipak
Release date: 28 January 1996

Originally this album was recorded in 1995, but the first version of the recording, in the opinion of the band, was not good enough. There were problems with the producer and drummer. In the released version they changed both, re-recorded it on another studio, and released it later. And to be honest, this version is absolutely awesome.

In my personal opinion, it’s the best Dark Funeral album ever, it’s heavy, intensive, fast, atmospheric, with great sound quality. Their next work is a bit similar, with a cleaner sound, but not so intensive. Lyrics is not something special in such a genre in the 90th. But the vocal itself is great.

It’s an absolute must-have for all black metal fans, it’s a real masterpiece from the best time of the black metal genre. And Sweden’s black metal has a bit different sound than Norwegian, and it’s useless to compare it with Darkthrone or other Norwegian bands.
