Ulver – Bergtatt – Et eeventyr i 5 capitler (1994)

Hi, everyone. This year is so crazy that I decided to listen to something from better times. And this album is one of the best for all times.

Artist: Ulver
Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal/Folk
Country: Norway
Label: Head Not Found
Type: Full-length album
Format: CD, Digipak
Release date: February 1995

This album is made for people who love atmospheric black metal (and I think that if you are from this category of music fans you probably know this album for a long time. This is an excellent combination of black melt with acoustic folk, and in the time when it was released, recording of such experiments was really courageous.

Ulver from their first records were experimentalists, each next record is stylishly different from previous. They played even some kind of synthpop on one of their later albums. But in 90th their music was perfect. Here you can find elements of second-wave black metal, Norwegian folk, acoustic guitars, atmospheric instrumentals.

This album is the first part of “The Trilogie – Three Journeys Through the Norwegian Netherworlde”. This part is most mixed by music style, the second part (Kveidssanger) is an acoustic folk/dark folk, the third part (Nattens Madrigal – Aatte Hymne Til Ulven I Manden) is traditional Norwegian black metal.

This is a true masterpiece, one of the best albums from the 90th, and I highly recommend it for anyone.
