Venom – Black Metal (1982)

Hello, everyone. This is a legendary album, and I can’t avoid it, I should make a review on it.

Artist: Venom
Genre: Speed Metal/Heavy Metal
Country: England
Label: Neat (UK), Combat (USA)
Type: Full-length album
Format: 12″ Vynil (33 1/2 RPM)
Release date: November 1st, 1982

First of all, in musical aspect, this is not black metal, it’s speed/heavy metal, the sound is very similar to Motorhead, but a bit heavier and raw. Such bands as Mayhem, Darkthrone, and other Norwegian black metal pioneers, were fans of this album and Venom in general. So, this album definitely is influential for the founding of black metal, but mostly stylistically and lyrically. It’s still Britsh heavy metal from 70-80th, but harder faster, and more aggressive. And also, this is the first time of using the term “black metal”, basically, Vemon established this musical term.

Also, Venom is one of the proto-thrash metal bands, their sound influenced such bands as Slayer, Sepultura, etc. Their lyrics were the darkest, the most satanic, and at the beginning of 80th it was shocking.

It is certainly one of the most influential bands in metal and this particular album in the black metal genre. And it’s recommended for listening to.
